You're only just a few minutes from downtown Avignon, and yet you seem so far removed from the world. Relais & Châteaux, the hotel 5-Star Le Prieuré is the absolutely perfect, cozy getaway you've been dreaming of for a romantic weekend or a weekend with the kids.

In the heart of the beautiful village of Villeneuve-lès-Avignon, so typical, The Priory welcomes you to Provence for a getaway dedicated to fine dining and total relaxation: from the Wine Route to L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, through the Luberon, and of course a visit to the Palais des Papes in Avignon, we’re sure you’ll have no shortage of ideas for walks and new discoveries.

As soon as you arrive, you’ll likely fall under its spell: this 14th-century building was restored and decorated in 2007 by Geneviève and Jean André Charial, who are none other than the owners of one of the most beautiful hotels in France: L'Oustau de Baumanière. An intimate setting, far from places where people stay «to be seen,» Le Prieuré is as enchanting as it is inspiring. It is also the only luxury hotel so close to Avignon that is so peaceful, set apart from the hustle and bustle, in a lush green setting.

In total, the hotel has 26 rooms, nine junior suites, and four suites. We love the cozy atmosphere, but above all the delicate balance between the old and the new.

Treat yourself to one of the suites (some offer 75 m² of space)2), especially if you're traveling with your family: they all feature a separate living area and a private terrace. They are located in the historic wing of the hotel or in the Atrium, next to the large outdoor pool.

Let yourself be swept away by the atmosphere of the place: before dinner, take a moment to stroll through the heart of the parish garden, with its stunning wisteria trellises. The old cloister has retained its old-world charm, and you’re sure to fall in love with it.

As for the team, it knows how to stay very attentive Throughout your stay—from the incredibly warm welcome to the many thoughtful touches you’ll experience—you’ll feel as if you’re being hosted by friends whose sole desire is to make you happy.

In a nutshell

  • A place steeped in history, set in a well-preserved and romantic setting.
  • An exceptional Michelin-starred restaurant.
  • A place that is both very intimate and family-friendly.

Le Prieuré Fine Dining Restaurant

The Chef's Team Marc Fontanne welcomes you to an elegant dining room or to the terraces, set amid flowers and bathed in sunlight. The young chef, who cut his teeth at La Réserve de Beaulieu, skillfully and deliciously showcases local producers and Mediterranean flavors.

We're loving the menu The Vegetable Garden Entirely focused on elevated vegetables: the beet is served as a vegetable ravioli with Barolo vinegar sorbet, lime zest, and shallots, while the celeriac is prepared as a stew, thickened with walnut oil and chives, and served with a smoky broth infused with pine needles. But fish and meat lovers won’t be left out, with a perfectly cooked John Dory.

Of course, we’ll introduce you to the finest wines from Provence and the Rhône Valley, each of which pairs perfectly with the à la carte dishes as well as the various set menus. Special mention goes to the organic wine “L’Affectif,” created by the hotel’s owner, Jean André Charial, while respecting nature and the environment.

With the kids

Children are special guests at the Priory. They'll love the huge outdoor pool: in the summer, if you want to treat them, have lunch in this cool oasis.

As for the garden, they’ll love exploring it however they please, making up wonderful stories as they go.
