Between Ménerbes and Bonnieux, set amidst its 23 hectares of vineyards, La Bastide de Marie cultivates a certain idea of Provence: that of a family home that has become a 5-star hotel, without altering its soul. In a Luberon that is not lacking in beautiful addresses, this one is our favorite.
This is accessed 5-star hotel in the Luberon by an avenue of ancient cypress and olive trees, somewhere between Ménerbes – classified among the most beautiful villages in France – and the hilltop village of Bonnieux. At the end, a restored 18th-century country farmhouse in the local tradition, with pale shutters, pink tiles, and a dry stone facade weathered by the sun. The property belongs to the Sibuet family, the owners of Les Fermes de Marie in Megève. Here, there's no flashy hall or reception: you enter as if visiting friends. Furniture found at local flea markets, mismatched earthenware, linen everywhere, the scent of fig trees at the end of the day, and a subtle elegance that's the signature of this collection.
15 rooms and suites where you'll want to stay
15 rooms and suites, all different, each named after its color: Aster Mauve, Red Ochre, Linden Green, Mimosa Yellow. Our favorite? The Marie Suite, overlooking the vineyards, about fifty square meters with a lounge area. Open the shutters directly onto the Domaine's rows and enjoy your coffee facing the vines. For families, the Abeille Family Suite stretches over 67 m² on the ground floor, opening onto the garden. For total privacy, three villas for rent On the estate with hotel services, from the 2-bedroom villa for 4 people (120 m²) to Mas Vermentino (270 m² for 12 people with a private heated pool). Everywhere, Pure Altitude cosmetics in the bathroom, the in-house brand born in the mountains.
Marie's Bastide table, Provence on a plate
Evening comes, we have dinner at restaurant Under the arbor crafted by a local blacksmith, by lantern light, or in the dining room when the air cools, with a greige linen tablecloth and vintage tableware. At the stoves, the chef offers a daily changing regional cuisine, nourished by the permaculture garden, the hives, and the estate's olive trees: heirloom tomatoes semi-candied over embers with virgin sauce, round eggplant from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue with stracciatella, Charolais beef fillet with syrah jus, roasted Roussillon apricots under a tile with homemade honey. For lunch, dine on the terrace facing the vineyards, or head out for a picnic among the rows.

A 23-hectare vineyard in the AOP Luberon.
The true uniqueness of the house lies in its land. Domaine de Marie encompasses 23 hectares of AOP Luberon vineyards, planted with Grenache, Syrah, as well as Roussanne, Vermentino, Cinsault, and Mourvèdre, vinified by cellar master Arnaud Bressy. You can push open the door of the tasting room for a tasting, follow a wine tour among the rows, and each evening at this hotel among the vineyards, the house aperitif is served to all guests before dinner, with estate wines and regional juices. The honey for the desserts comes from the beehives you'll pass on your walks: here, nothing comes from far away.
Spa Pure Altitude and two swimming pools amidst the vineyards
On the relaxation side, the Spa Pure Altitude offers a Provençal version of the brand born in the Alps: two treatment rooms and an outdoor massage area, set amidst the vineyards. Honey and jasmine wraps, neroli treatments, massages with linen pouches filled with salts, lavender, and pine: slip in during nap time, with the shutters half-closed, before heading to the water. Two outdoor pools, one of which is heated, extend the day. In the late afternoon, with a glass of wine from the estate in hand, watch the sun set behind the rows of vines as the stone of the bastide turns golden.
