Les Sources de Cheverny: The 5-Star Hotel with a Spa at the Foot of the Loire Valley Castles
August 18, 2026 Delphine

45 hectares of Sologne forest, an 18th-century castle, and a lake lined with gorse, 2 hours from Paris : At Les Sources de Cheverny, Alice and Jérôme Tourbier built a house rather than a hotel. Our favorite spot for Staying near the châteaux of the Loire Valley.

A hamlet in the forest, two hours from Paris

We turn off the road to Cheverny, pass through a tree-lined driveway, and the estate suddenly comes into view: a light-stone castle, old farmhouses, and a string of wooden cabins lining the water’s edge. Designed by architect Yves Collet and styled by Studio be-poles, the complex forms a village where the buildings complement one another, with zinc and slate roofs just like in the surrounding towns. Opened in 2020 by the creators of the Caudalie Sources, in Bordeaux, Les Sources de Cheverny is a 5-star luxury hotel in the Loire Valley who chose the countryside over pomp and circumstance. A family home dedicated to the good life, just 5 minutes from the Château de Cheverny.

Six places to stay in the countryside

49 rooms and suites, spread across six buildings, each with its own distinct character. At the Château du Breuil, 13 rooms feature period wood paneling and fireplaces, painted in shades of green that reflect the forest throughout the seasons, beneath Claire Basler’s immense botanical fresco. Further on, the cottages of the Hameau du Marais line up with their terraces facing the lake, featuring chalk-colored walls and contemporary photographs hanging on the walls. And then there’s the suite that lovers secretly pass along to one another: Le Baron Perché, a solid-wood cabin perched on stilts three meters above the water, offering a panoramic view of the orchards and a private Nordic hot tub on the terrace.

A Caudalie spa on the edge of the woods

Adjacent to the Château du Breuil, the Caudalie Spa makes Les Sources de Cheverny one of the few spa hotels in the region to take wellness to such heights. Outside, a hot tub encircled by oak like a barrel, filled with warm water, where you can listen to the birds; inside, beneath a wooden roof structure, a relaxation pool and a hammam. The signature treatments feature grape seed extracts, known for their antioxidant and anti-aging properties: a “Crushed Cabernet” scrub, a winemaker’s massage with a wooden stick, and four-hand rituals. On sunny days, guests can continue their experience at the long outdoor pool, which serves as a bridge between the château and the trees.

Two tables and the estate's vintage

At the table, the Loire region takes center stage. At Le Favori, Michelin-starred restaurant, Chef Pierre Frindel puts vegetables front and center—celeriac and pomelo, artichoke barigoule and foie gras, line-caught hake with yuzu—under Raphaël Kadid’s chandeliers and their 1,100 hand-blown glass tubes. Three set menus, ranging from 90 to 180 euros, and a tasting rack set in the center of the dining room, from which the head sommelier selects the bottles. In the neighboring former wine cellar, L’Auberge operates its wood-fired rotisserie to serve simpler, shareable dishes. There, guests can sample La Grand’Vigne, the house wine made from Romorantin grapes grown on the estate, visible from the guest rooms.

That leaves the main draw of the location: its setting. Les Sources de Cheverny is one of the best bases for visiting the châteaux of the Loire Valley. The estate is located on the “Loire à Vélo” loop: pick up a bike at the front desk, grab a map of the routes, and head out to explore the Renaissance castles. As for the rest, the concierge team will arrange private tours of the castles as well as excursions on the Loire River, whether by kayak or boat.
