Le Montalembert, a 5-star hotel in Saint-Germain-des-Prés
December 26, 2025 Pauline

Paris's premier boutique hotel, Le Montalembert, remains a cult address nearly a century after its opening, among the 5-star hotels in Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Halfway between an art de vivre house and a discreetly charming refuge for aesthetes, it encapsulates the entire Left Bank spirit: culture, wit, and that certain je ne sais quoi of timeless elegance that no palace can replicate.

A Saint-Germain-des-Prés myth that is still alive

Inaugurated in 1926, the Hotel Montalembert has weathered the ages without ever losing its splendor. It has experienced the effervescence of the interwar period, the literary debates of the fifties, dinners with publishers and artists, and remains today a refined crossroads where writers, politicians, journalists, and creators mingle. Opening onto Rue du Bac, nestled among art galleries, antique shops, and bookstores (in short, the very essence of Saint-Germain), it's the kind of intimate and luxurious boutique hotel one recommends to friends. And as soon as you step inside, you understand why.

The spirit of a Parisian apartment

The duo formed by Géraldine Prieur and Pascal Allaman has given this century-old house a new lease on life without altering its soul. Cornices, moldings, wengé parquet floors, patinated brass, and raw silk… everything here speaks of a refined yet vibrant Paris. The 50 rooms and 10 suites feature two color schemes (yellow and orange) that evoke the evening light on the Haussmannian facades. The attic suites on the top floors, with their floral balconies and views of the Eiffel Tower, the bell tower of Saint-Thomas d’Aquin church, and the Parisian rooftops from their bathtubs, are true havens. And then there's the Signature Montalembert Suite, specially designed by Anne Jousse, the owner, offering a Suite «at home» (Herringbone parquet flooring, Gerrit Rietveld's Utrecht armchair, Jean-Pierre Bourquin paintings, objects found during his travels...).

A literary and gourmet restaurant

The restaurant De Montalembert has always attracted the literary and fashion crowd, who come here for its intimate atmosphere as much as for its cuisine. It has now been renovated with high-quality materials. In the kitchen, Chef Cyril Russo creates a sensitive, intuitive menu where the product reigns supreme and the season dictates. At lunchtime, you'll see the local regulars.; In the evening, a Parisian clientele who recognizes good restaurants without any flashy signs.

The bar and fireplace lounge: the beating heart of the place

With its marble counter, bubble mirrors, and intimate atmosphere, the bar at Montalembert is one of those well-kept secrets of the 7th arrondissement.. You can have a quick lunch here, chat about the world at dusk, and in good weather, the sunny terrace attracts a clientele of neighborhood regulars. Between the bar and the patio, the living room with a fireplace, all in wood paneling and bookshelves, is another insider haunt: a wood fire, deep armchairs, and silence punctuated by turning pages.

A brand new spa

Since 2024, the Montalembert has boasted a spa and fitness area designed by Batiik Studio. Conceived as an escape from the urban bustle, the space blends natural stone, shimmering wood, and soft lighting. The Calma treatments are precise, the textures are sensory, and everything invites you to slow down. The gym, equipped with state-of-the-art machines, allows you to keep up your pace before a treatment. A delightful surprise in such an intimate luxury establishment, proving that the Montalembert continues to evolve while never forsaking its elegance.
