Matakauri Lodge is located on New Zealand’s South Island, just a short walk from the town of Queenstown and on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. The property is a true haven of peace and is the ideal retreat for anyone who loves tranquility and serenity, with the added bonus of a splendid view from your suite. A member of Relais & Châteaux, Matakauri Lodge is part of the same group as the Kauri Cliffs and the Cape Kidnappers Hotel.

Among the many highlights of Matakauri Lodge, the breathtaking panoramic view is undoubtedly a favorite. The lodge offers not only a splendid view of Lake Wakatipu, but also of the region’s magnificent mountains. The main building features a cozy common room, perfect for reading and enjoying the fireplace, as well as the dining room.

Matakauri Lodge has a total of eleven suites, each featuring a fireplace for cozy winter evenings. They combine comfort, luxury, and technology to ensure a stay that meets everyone’s expectations. We recommend choosing the Deluxe suites to enjoy breathtaking views.

The Matakauri Lodge restaurant welcomes you for all your meals and offers a breathtaking view. Breakfast is served buffet-style, while lunch features a selection of sandwiches, salads, and desserts. Opt for the picnic option to explore the region. If you’d like to dine in a private setting, the hotel will make all the necessary arrangements so you can enjoy a meal for two, either in the common room or outdoors.

The spa offers a wide range of treatments and massages to suit every desire and need. It features two treatment rooms, a sauna, a hot tub, and a heated pool.

There’s no shortage of things to do at Matakauri Lodge. You can go horseback riding, ride an ATV, or take a tour of the region’s vineyards. Inspiration

Shopping
We especially love the store Vesta Design which offers a wide variety of handicrafts and products from New Zealand. Everything is beautiful and, above all, quintessentially New Zealand.

Out for a walk
Just 7 kilometers from the lodge, you can take a walk that lasts about an hour. Bob’s Cove offers a beautiful lakeside stroll, as well as beaches where you can go swimming.

Zen
The Matakauri Lodge spa offers a wide range of treatments. Choose a signature treatment such as the back and facial massage, offered exclusively by the hotel’s spa. Whether you opt for a hot stone massage or a relaxation massage, you’ll be able to let yourself be lulled into a state of gentle serenity.

In the suitcase
Everything you need for hiking (you should always have hiking shoes in New Zealand), some high-SPF sunscreen, binoculars if you'd like to go birdwatching, and slightly dressier attire for the hotel restaurant in the evening.
