Between the Drus and the Bossons Glacier, the Mont Blanc Hotel boasts Belle Époque palace-like grandeur. In 1849, the Mont-Blanc Hotel sprang up, as Chamonix was attracting a cosmopolitan clientele from all over the world. For the first winter sports holidays, wealthy patrons chose this exceptional site in Haute Savoie. The opening of the first major climbing routes and the 1924 Olympic Games made Chamonix an international resort, a privileged location for vacationers as well as great adventurers like Roger Frison-Roche or Maurice Herzog. Interior designer Sybille de Margerie (also decorator of The Hotel Cœur de Megève For example, they managed to restore the hotel to its former glory during its renovation. The elegance of palaces, nods to the mountains, and contemporary touches blend wonderfully. In the lobby, black and white checkerboard marble leads guests to the monumental staircase, adorned with pretty wrought iron. As for the rooms, they are dressed in Savoyard-inspired woodwork, illuminated with contemporary hues.

A cocoon in the heart of Chamonix

The 5-star hotel has 41 rooms, including 18 junior suites and two 75m² suites. Our favorite is the new 100m² Penthouse suite. Under the eaves, the penthouse is decorated in light tones, warmed by a few orange accents on the cushions or rug. The master suite has an open bathroom with a bathtub where you can relax while admiring Mont Blanc.

Those who want to do laps head to the heated outdoor pool, summer and winter, with a view of the Mont-Blanc massif. The 14-meter-long pool and the hot tub are surrounded by a wooded park, which is quite rare in the center of Chamonix. At the spa, A hammam, sauna, shower experience, and high-tech fitness equipment await guests. In the cabins, treatments are designed by the brand's Clarins experts.

Alpine inspiration on a plate

The decor of the restaurant Le Matafan revisits mountain codes: wood is presented in round slices on the walls, contrasting with the white-clothed tables and their red seats, not to mention the large open fireplace in the center. The name was chosen in homage to the famous galette, the «matafan» ("mate la faim" meaning "quench your hunger" in Savoyard dialect), whose recipe varies from valley to valley. Chef Mickey Bourdillat's cuisine follows the rhythm of seasonal produce. However, the influence of the alpine valleys is never far away, as seen in the fish of the day accompanied by braised endives in Mont Blanc dark beer, buckwheat, and chicory butter. And to warm up on a cold winter day, who wouldn't be tempted by an original fontina fondue with local chanterelles and garlic croutons?

This 5-star hotel is ideal for hosts seeking altitude as well as for those who want to enjoy the shops and activities of this superb mountain town, the heart of Haute-Savoie, which is Chamonix.
