The 14 Most Beautiful Mountain Hotels, from Megève to Wengen
November 6, 2026 Audrey

Skiing right from your doorstep in Val Thorens, an onsen with a view of the Jungfrau, a mountain hut accessible by gondola above Saint-Gervais… From the French Alps to the Bernese Oberland, here are the 14 most beautiful mountain hotels for the winter of 2026–2027, from Megève to Courchevel via Méribel, La Rosière, and Alpe d’Huez. High-altitude spas, Michelin-starred restaurants, and kids’ clubs: each destination has something to offer.

Hôtel Mont-Blanc, Megève: Cocteau's 4-star boutique hotel

On the square where horse-drawn carriages pass by, in the shadow of the bell tower, the Hôtel Mont-Blanc has watched over Megève since 1913. Jean Cocteau nicknamed it the «21st arrondissement of Paris», Roger Vadim set up his camera there to Dangerous Liaisons, and the Sibuet family, who have owned it since 1992, keeps its memory alive even in the guest rooms.

Here, every guest has their own balcony or terrace—and their own bathtub. Almond green, sky blue, golden accents, baroque chandeliers, and cupids carved into the wood of the Junior Suites… With this level of attention to detail, the Mont-Blanc stands out as the leader among the 4-star hotels in Megève. Its 38 rooms and suites range from the 22 m² Classic Room, adjacent to the Cocteau Lounge, to the 44 m² Signature Suite, which spans the north-south axis.

The restaurant is the Relais Mont-Blanc, whose menu spans the mountain passes, from Savoyard truffle-stuffed épogne to a fondue made with equal parts Gruyère and Vacherin. For aperitifs, Les Enfants Terribles uncorks its vintage champagnes, including the 2009 Dom Ruinart. With its champagne bar, spa featuring igloo-style treatment rooms, and the Caboche gondola right behind it, the Mont-Blanc remains Megève’s most well-rounded boutique hotel. For afternoon tea, the house specialty is, of course, the Mont-Blanc pastry—chestnut cream included.

Lodge Park, Megève: The Luxury Spa Hotel Designed for Relaxation

In Megève, après-ski has found its home. Right in the heart of the pedestrian zone, the Lodge des Sibuet—taken over in 1996—features 29 rooms and suites, where guests sleep surrounded by log headboards, glacial stones, and club chairs. A destination tailor-made for couples and groups of friends, open in both winter and summer.

The newest addition, the Chalet du Lodge, will open in December 2026 on the grounds, featuring 450 m², five bedrooms, and a 10-meter private pool. Thanks to this addition, Lodge Park is among the 5-star hotels in Megève large enough to accommodate a group of ten without leaving the city center. In the hotel, the 100-square-meter penthouse can seat four adults around its bar.

The experience includes the “Skiers’ Secret Treatment,” a hyperbaric chamber session, and a hot tub that seats twenty. This comprehensive offering makes Lodge Park Megève’s most advanced luxury spa hotel when it comes to recovery. In the evening, at Chef Christophe Côte’s Beef Lodge, marrowbone with a salt crust is served before the dessert called “Megève,” featuring chocolate and Swiss meringue.

Les Fermes de Marie, Megève: a kid-friendly hotel the size of a hamlet

Bottle warmer, nightlight, changing pad, crib, and baby bathtub: at Les Fermes de Marie, essentials for toddlers are provided free of charge upon request. Les Fermes has operated this way since 1989, when Jean-Louis and Jocelyne Sibuet built this hamlet of nine alpine chalets 500 meters from the village.

Up to five people in 90 m²: the family rooms are connected to each other. At the Children's Hamlet, for children ages 5 and up, wooden playhouses sit alongside a stage and a video game area, and the Kids Concierge hosts the Mega Mini Disco there during the holidays. All these thoughtful touches make Les Fermes de Marie the top choice among kid-friendly hotels in Megève. In the evening, the Table des Enfants lets parents enjoy a romantic dinner for two.

On the skiing front, a technician offers advice on equipment at the La Tour ski shop, then the shuttle heads to the Chamois gondola, the gateway to the 400 km of the Évasion Mont-Blanc ski area. On the way back, parents can head to the Pure Altitude Spa. Another highlight of this family-friendly hotel in Megève is the half-board option at Les Fermes de Marie, which spans four restaurants: from Le Carnotzet to the Beef Lodge and the Relais Mont-Blanc. At breakfast, the chef cooks eggs to order, and the kids dig into pancakes, waffles, and brioches.

The spa, open to guests ages 16 and up, has partnered with Susanne Kaufmann, an Austrian brand founded in the Bregenz Forest, whose Signature Ritual combines a body scrub, massage, and facial treatment. But it is its heated pool—which extends outdoors with a view of the mountains—that makes Les Chalets du Mont d’Arbois one of the most beautiful spa hotels in the Alps. In the evening, Héritage serves its Alpine brasserie cuisine to just 25 guests; in the morning, smoked trout is served alongside pastries.

Le Refuge Chez la Tante, Saint-Gervais: a unique ski-in/ski-out hotel

The road ends at the Bettex parking lot. From there, you take the gondola, then walk 600 meters, while your luggage is transported in the same gondola and then by motorized vehicle. If you’re looking for a unique hotel in the Alps, the Refuge Chez la Tante fits the bill perfectly. Skiers departing from Megève can even have their luggage transported up from their hotel.

A total of twenty rooms and suites, ranging from the 24-square-meter Classic Cabin to the 115-square-meter Joly Suite, which accommodates four adults and four children, four-bed dormitory included. In the morning, we head out from the Refuge Chez la Tante with our skis on: a hotel literally at the foot of the slopes. On-site ski room; boot adjustments at the end of the day.

At Chez la Tante, the dining room, which seats 100, is arranged around an open fire. A weekend in Saint-Gervais is also worth a visit to Les Thermes, where water has been gushing at nearly 39 °C since 1806. In the summer, you can reach the Refuge on foot from Le Bettex in 1 hour and 45 minutes, with a 600-meter elevation gain.

“L’Alpaga” is the first project for Beaumier by Vicky Charles and Julia Corden of the Charles & Co. studio. The color palette contrasts forest green, steel blue, chocolate brown, and burgundy red with marble, weathered leather, wood, and mohair. Throughout the chalets, Gwenaëlle Grandjean’s oil pastel herbarium illustrations are juxtaposed with Karl Machatschek’s sepia-toned photographs, the luminous mountains of painter Gabriel Micheletti, and collections of local spoons. Even the library draws on resources from the region.

At the Bistrot de L’Alpaga, homemade soups and local valley produce are served for lunch, with a more refined menu in the evening; half-board is available. The bar takes over at the end of the day. Inside, there’s a hammam and a massage jet pool; outside, a heated pool open year-round, a sauna, and a Swedish bath overlooking Mont Blanc.

Grand Hotel Belvedere, Wengen: A Grand Belle Époque Hotel in the Jungfrau Region

A rack-and-pinion train from Lauterbrunnen, followed by the hotel’s electric car: in Wengen, a car-free village at the foot of the Männlichen, the arrival sets the tone. The Grand Hotel Belvedere, the village's first and only 5-star hotel, reopened in 2024 under the Beaumier name, spread across two historic buildings: the Belvedere, built in 1912, and the Waldrand.

Green granite, spruce parquet flooring, and original Art Deco furnishings adorn its 90 rooms and suites, reflecting the craftsmanship of the Bernese Oberland. The Jungfrau-view rooms overlook the Lauterbrunnen Valley and its 72 waterfalls. At the Brasserie Belvedere, Chef Will Gordon reimagines Swiss classics using seasonal Alpine ingredients in an 188-square-meter Art Nouveau dining room with 3.78-meter-high ceilings. The Waldrand serves as a second dining venue, and the garden, terrace, and tennis court take center stage during the warmer months.

Inspired by Japanese onsen, the spa is housed in a new pavilion featuring a heated pool that’s half indoors and half outdoors, a sauna, a steam room, and a cold plunge pool. Susanne Kaufmann treatments are offered in four treatment rooms, including one double room, and in the evening, the pool is reserved for guests 13 and older. Then there’s the relaxation room, where you can enjoy a cup of herbal tea with a full view of the Jungfrau.
