While it's not surprising to encounter rays, multi-colored fish, dolphins, or even sharks in the sea, you have to admit that seeing cute little pigs swimming among them might be surprising! Pig Beachcochon), also called Pig Island, is an uninhabited island in the Bahamas, known for being populated by many pigs that are not hesitant to go into the water, making this place a local curiosity.

This island paradise surrounded by clear water and white sand is indeed inhabited by very happy pigs. The surroundings therefore attract boaters, as the pigs, accustomed to human contact and good swimmers, come looking for food near the boats.

But how did domestic pigs end up on a deserted island? Three theories exist. The first suggests that a crew might have left them there as food for potential shipwrecked survivors, a common practice in the 19th century. The second theory mentions a shipwreck from which the animals survived, swimming to shore. Finally, the last hypothesis proposes that the pigs came from a nearby islet.
