Villa René Lalique
The best hotel in Alsace for combining nature and culture
In the heart of a 6-hectare park, the Villa, built by René Lalique in 1920, where he lived during his stays in Alsace, is brought back to life after its transformation into a 5-star hotel, a member of Relais&Châteaux, featuring a gourmet restaurant. Sylvio Denz, the owner of the Lalique house, enlisted architect Mario Botta to build the ultra-contemporary section housing the lobby, restaurant, and wine cellar, and Lady Tina Green and Pietro Mingarelli to oversee the decor. They succeeded in creating a sumptuous 5-star hotel without altering the soul of the house. René Lalique’s genius is showcased everywhere: the Cactus table stands out in the glass passage connecting the Villa to the new section, the bar is adorned with crystal inclusions. And, to discover the six suites, you’ll take the black staircase, a replica of the original. Chef Paul Stradner is at the helm, supported by Jean-Georges Klein, the Villa’s former chef, who previously held three Michelin stars at L’Arnsbourg. The restaurant boasts 2 stars and a cuisine rich in visual and gustatory contrasts, celebrating sweet and savory combinations and bold pairings like Baeri Royal caviar and beef tartare, sea bass in a salt crust with herb risotto, among others. Finally, the Villa is ideally located for exploring the Lalique Museum, just a short walk away.
