When a Park Turns into a Lake in Austria

When a Park Turns into a Lake in Austria
June 28, 2017 Pauline

In this park, to sit on a bench, you'll need to hold your breath or bring your diving gear. Every year, at the foot of the Hochschwab mountains in Austria, when the snow melts, the magic happens.

It's the photographer Marc Henauer Who immortalized this superb change of scenery. When the snow from the surrounding mountains melts, the waters of the Grüner See lake rise and overflow into the park. The phenomenon occurring rather smoothly, everything remains in its place, but... underwater!

Throughout the year, the lake's water level is around 1 to 2 meters, while in May, the waters rise to reach 10 to 12 meters. The lake's surface area increases from 2000 m2 to 4000 m2. If you want to visit next year, you'll need to plan ahead, as the phenomenon only lasts 3 to 4 weeks in the spring.

The incredible photos in this article were taken by photographer Marc Henauers. We invite you to visit their Facebook page.
