October 7, 2025 Kimberley Prouvost

Sometimes called the Island of the Sun due to its exceptional sunshine, Alpe d'Huez is perched at an altitude of 1,860 meters in the Grandes Rousses massif. At the foot of the ski slopes are several 4 and 5 star hotels in Alpe d'Huez, which celebrate the authentic charm of the mountains in a ultra-luxurious version.

The Great Rousses

Open in winter as well as summer, this mountain hotel 5-star accommodation boasting panoramic views of the Oisans massif. Behind its light wood architecture are spaces where the charm of Alpe d'Huez is experienced in discreet and delicate luxury. From the lounges to the 95 rooms and suites, as well as the 2 mini-lofts, the loft, and the 2 independent 250 m2 chalets, Les Grandes Rousses offers a refined atmosphere where fur cushions and wool armchairs provide sublime comfort. Here, wood and light are subtly orchestrated, always aiming to give pride of place to the snow-capped mountain environment. It is facing this scenery that you can relax at the hotel's spa, whose treatments are based on Alpinotherapy®. Surrounded by stones and blue mosaics, this wellness sanctuary features sensory pools, a cryotherapy area, and treatments with local plants. Gastronomy is also a highlight, with the fondues and raclettes at Mas’Hauts to be enjoyed in small chalets on the terrace with a swimming pool, the gastronomic La Ferme d’Hubert, and the bistronomic L’Espérance. One of our favorite hotels in Alpe d'Huez, it's a dream starting point for skiing and hiking excursions.

At the Golden Chamois

Its name suggests a stay that is as deeply rooted in its region as it is prestigious. At Chamois d’Or – a 5-star hotel in the Étincelles collection – the authentic, unpretentious charm of the mountains can be felt throughout its 42 rooms, entirely clad in wood, from walls to ceiling. Adding to this are red carpeting, large comfortable armchairs, and stone fireplaces topped with deer heads. On the panoramic terrace, the restaurant The hotel's restaurant combines market products and regional flavors, as well as some international dishes to satisfy all tastes. On the wellness side, the spa, driven by Nuxe, offers exclusive treatments, complemented by an indoor pool with a sober atmosphere, a steam room, and a sauna. To be discovered in a green landscape in summer and adorned with its coat of snow in winter.

Hôtel Daria-I Nor by Les Étincelles

Also integrated into the Les Étincelles collection, the 5-star Hôtel Daria-I Nor, with its modern chalet feel, offers a significant advantage: an 800m2 spa where the natural light flooding the establishment gives way to ultra-soothing darkness. Ice fountain, swimming pool, sauna, salt wall… Each space is enhanced by subdued lighting and dark mosaics and stones. It’s the complete opposite in the 46 rooms and suites, dressed in classic mountain decor with walls that are sometimes white, sometimes wood-paneled. At La Table du Daria, the bistronomic cuisine is freely inspired by Transalpine traditions, all to be savored by the fireplace while listening to live music concerts. One of the best hotels in Alpe d’Huez for a ski weekend.

Royal Bear White Hotel

This boutique hotel in the heart of Alpe d’Huez, recognizable from the outside by its round windows, has been entirely decorated and furnished by Sandrine Alouf with warm colors. In the 46 rooms, the textured walls echo the honeycomb cells of beehives, while yellow and red are paired with light wood. At the spa, the bear is highlighted with a stone cave design worthy of the finest dens. This is where you take the time to swim and purify yourself in the steam room and sauna. The massages evoke the mountains, such as “Body Care Like Snow” and “Pure Altitude.” Open during both seasons, the 4-star Hôtel Royal Ours Blanc unveils La Taverne de l’Ours, a restaurant with a unique menu each day in a typical mountain setting, enhanced by contemporary furniture.

Dark wood walls, brown fur throws, black furniture, and red carpeting lend a certain character to the decor.
