Château de l’Épinay: A Bucolic and Epicurean Retreat
November 25, 2020 Camille

Just 15 minutes from Angers, the Château de l’Epinay has more than one asset to charm any city dweller in need of an escape! A member of the Hotels & Preferences group, this 4-star hotel, set within a 17-hectare park with century-old trees, has established its elegant decor in an 18th-century castle, with some parts dating back to the 15th century.

The pitch The very important work undertaken to transform the château into a hotel began in 2004, following the acquisition of the estate by the Montuoro family. After a few renovations, the château opened as a Bed & Breakfast. Following a further significant refurbishment of the upper floors and outbuildings, it was officially recognized as a 4-star hotel in 2015, boasting 23 rooms and suites. Each of these rooms has its own unique personality, featuring refined decor that blends antique furniture, exposed beams, tapestries, Persian rugs, stone fireplaces, 18th-century paintings... with a few contemporary pieces.

We discover the geographical location of the place which makes it an excellent «base camp» for visiting The Loire Châteaux, the Layon vineyards, Puy du Fou Park, and Terra Botanica Park,

We appreciate The restaurant, L'Orangerie: stone walls, chandelier with pendants, 18th-century chairs. We feast on Italian-inspired cuisine by the Italian chef. Gregorio Sepe. The uses vegetables and fruits straight from the Château's garden: Local and seasonal are the watchwords at L’Orangerie. How can you resist the gorgonzola fries, the porcini mushroom pappardelle, or the sea bream fillet with a pistachio crust? Not to mention the famous tiramisu.

We like suites that can accommodate 4 people, offering the possibility of a relaxing family weekend. There are indeed numerous activities suitable for all ages: natural swimming pool, jacuzzi, fitness, canoeing on the estate's private river, pétanque, cycling or walking trails, yoga classes, trampoline…

Let's relax in the reading room, in the music room with a grand piano, and in the game room with a billiards table and a projector for cinema fans.

We love it the spa installed in old 15th-century bakeries. Here, you can indulge in various treatments under the guidance of the Cinq Mondes and Douces Angevines brands, a Certified organic French brand

Good to know Athéna Montuoro, the castle's director, has developed detox, meditation, yoga cures, and retreats. 3 nights/4 days and 6 nights/7 days. To reharmonize your body and mind!
