The most beautiful hotels in Alpe d'Huez
September 24, 2026 Kimberley Prouvost

Nicknamed “The Island of the Sun,” the resort features at the base of its slopes 4- and 5-star hotels in Alpe d'Huez bathed in light. As winter approaches, the south-facing balconies look forward to the snow, steam rises from the heated pools toward the Écrins, and the slopes await the first tracks left by skiers.

Grandes Rousses Hotel & Spa

Open in winter as well as summer, this mountain hotel A 5-star property since 2022, it boasts a panoramic view of the Oisans mountain range. Behind its appearance as an Alpine chalet—built in 1956 by a family that had been hosting guests in Huez since 1902—lie spaces where the charm of Alpe d’Huez is experienced in discreet and refined luxury. From the lounges to the 95 rooms and suites, including the two mini-lofts, the loft, and the two chalets measuring 250 and 285 m², Les Grandes Rousses offers a refined atmosphere where copper—the unifying element of the decor—adds warmth to the natural materials. Here, wood and light take center stage in a subtle way, always with the aim of letting the snow-capped peaks take center stage. It is against this backdrop that guests can relax at the Spa des Alpes, one of the most beautiful spa facilities at mountain hotels, whose treatments are based on Alpine therapy. Built of wood and stone, this wellness sanctuary features a sensory pool, an ice fountain, and treatments using plants and minerals from the Oisans region. Outside, a heated pool, sauna, and Nordic bath extend the relaxation experience. The culinary scene is not to be outdone, with fondues and raclettes from Les Mas’Hauts to enjoy in cozy little chalets, the home-style cooking at L’Espérance, and—in the summer—the terrace at La Ferme d’Hubert. One of our favorite hotels in Alpe d’Huez, it’s the perfect starting point for skiing and hiking trips.

At the Golden Chamois

Its name hints at a stay that is as deeply rooted in its local heritage as it is prestigious. At Le Chamois d’Or—a 5-star chalet-hotel part of the Les Étincelles collection—the charm of the mountains is evident in the wood-paneled rooms and suites, ranging from 18 to 75 m². Depending on the room category, these may also feature a balcony overlooking the peaks or even a fireplace, as in the César Suite. On the panoramic terrace, accessible right from the slopes, the restaurant The hotel’s restaurant serves traditional and “bistronomic” cuisine created by Gaël Bogourou, where French classics take on an Alpine twist. For wellness, the Nuxe-inspired spa offers treatments and cedar-wood baths, complemented by a naturally lit indoor pool, a hammam, and a sauna. Discover this retreat amid lush greenery in summer and a snow-covered landscape in winter.

Hôtel Daria-I Nor by Les Étincelles

Also part of the Les Étincelles collection, the 5-star Hôtel Daria-I Nor offers a significant added bonus: an 800 m² spa where the natural light that floods the property also illuminates the pool, which faces the mountains. An ice fountain, sauna, steam room, hot tub, Himalayan salt wall, Valmont and Phytomer treatments… Inspired by the story of the pink diamond that gave the hotel its name, the 37 rooms and nine suites—ranging from 24 to 63 m²—blend styles in warm tones and all feature private balconies. At La Table du Daria, the bistronomic cuisine draws freely from Alpine traditions, all to be enjoyed around a wine cellar situated in the middle of the dining room. One of the best hotels in Alpe d’Huez for a ski weekend, located at the foot of the Alpe Express gondola.

Royal Bear White Hotel

This boutique hotel in the center of Alpe d’Huez, facing due south, was entirely decorated and furnished by Sandrine Alouf using warm colors. In the 46 rooms, the textured walls echo the honeycomb of a beehive, while yellow and red blend with light wood. At the pool, the bear takes center stage with a stone-cave design worthy of the finest dens. This is where guests take the time to swim before enjoying the jacuzzi, sauna, and steam room at the Spa de l’Ours. The spa treatments, meanwhile, swap the mountains for the Dead Sea, using minerals from KEDMA. Open year-round, the 4-star Hôtel Royal Ours Blanc features La Taverne de l’Ours in the winter—a restaurant with a unique daily menu in a traditional mountain setting, where raclette and fondue are made with ingredients sourced from local producers.
