Rome's most beautiful 5-star hotels
July 11, 2025 Kimberley Prouvost

In Rome, every alley tells a story, every stone evokes eternity, and some places invite you to experience this city with the grandeur it deserves. Beyond the ancient ruins, the Baroque fountains, and the flower-adorned balconies, a few 5-star hotels embody the art of Roman living… Behind discreet facades or within the walls of sumptuous palaces, a style, a vision, a dialogue between heritage and modernity is written across these five exceptional establishments.

Casa Monti, the arty and confidential hotel in the heart of Rome's liveliest neighborhood

In the heart of Monti, one of Rome's most vibrant and creative neighborhoods, Casa Monti embodies a new generation of luxury hotels: intimate, artistic, and rooted in their surroundings. Recently opened, this Luxury hotel in Rome, a member of the Experimental group, draws inspiration as much from the codes of designer hotels as from the bohemian soul of the neighborhood. The building, an elegant 1930s residence with rationalist lines, was redesigned by designer Dorothée Meilichzon with exceptional and thorough energy. Mediterranean colors, organic shapes, ceramic headboards, references to Roman antiquities and the world of the workshop: each room tells a story, in an artistic and warm spirit.

The ground floor houses a retro-style cocktail bar, a popular spot for Romans, and a restaurant serving creative Italian cuisine, open to the street. On the rooftop, a spectacular terrace offers views of Rome's rooftops, in a setting evoking hanging gardens and Roman festivals.

We love it? The service, both relaxed and very attentive, reflects the spirit of this 5-star place: contemporary, cosmopolitan, without ever sacrificing elegance.

J.K. Place Rome, the art of Italian living between Via Condotti and Piazza di Spagna

A stone's throw from the Spanish Steps, in the most elegant district of the Italian capital, one of Rome's most beautiful 5-star hotels – a member of The Leading Hotels of the World – imposes its style with discretion. From the moment you enter, the tone is set: you are not entering a hotel, but a private residence, refined and hushed, where every detail feels like it belongs in a 21st-century Roman palace. Within the walls of this former Banca Nazionale del Lavoro building, transformed by Florentine architect Michele Bönan into an exceptional residence, contemporary artworks, antique finds, fine woods, and precious fabrics coexist. The omnipresent marble, restored moldings, and clean lines harmonize brilliantly.

The 30 rooms, all unique, offer absolute comfort and a cozy atmosphere: high ceilings, custom furniture, ultra-luxurious bedding, and soft lighting. The bathrooms, made of Carrara marble, subtly evoke ancient thermal baths.

At J.K. Café, the chef reinterprets Italian cuisine with a cosmopolitan twist, and dishes are served in a paneled dining room where you feel right at home. The service, ever-present but never intrusive, cultivates the art of just the right attention.

Do we appreciate it? Here, there's no excessive pomp, but a discreet luxury, reserved for a demanding clientele seeking perfection without ostentation.

Hotel Vilòn, the well-kept secret of the Borghese Palace

Hidden from view, concealed within an wing of the legendary Palazzo Borghese, Hotel Vilòn emerges like a rare jewel, exuding a confidential charm and aristocratic elegance. This boutique hotel, with only 18 rooms, offers an intimate experience in the very heart of Rome, just a stone's throw from the Tiber River and the boutiques of Via del Corso. The decor, conceived by Giampiero Panepinto, boldly blends ancient frescoes, Venetian mirrors, floral tapestries, and designer furniture. Deep hues – petrol blue, forest green, antique gold – imbue the space with a hushed atmosphere. The must-have feature? Certain rooms and suites open onto the secret gardens of the Borghese Palace.

The hotel also houses the Adelaide restaurant, where Chef Gabriele Muro offers Roman cuisine revisited with elegance and sensitivity. Here, you'll find the aromas of Italian tradition – lamb, puntarelle, Roman artichoke – enhanced by a sophisticated technique. Breakfast, served à la carte on fine china, highlights market-fresh products.

The little extra? The staff, with rare discretion, know each client's preferences and create a tailor-made service.

Palazzo Manfredi, the spectacular address facing the Colosseum

Few hotels in Rome can boast such proximity, both physical and symbolic, to history! The Palazzo Manfredi, housed within the walls of an elegant 17th-century palace on the Caelian Hill, offers a breathtaking face-to-face with the Colosseum, whose monumental silhouette graces the windows of the rooms, suites, and panoramic terrace. From the moment you enter, the past is abundantly on display: ancient mosaics protected under glass, meticulously restored coffered ceilings, period paintings in dialogue with contemporary furnishings, creating a harmonious staging of heritage and modernity. The rooms, some equipped with outdoor jacuzzis offering direct views of the Imperial Forums, feature a luxury that is both refined and technological: fine wood floors, grained leather headboards, silk drapes, and discreet yet sophisticated home automation.

The highlight of the stay undoubtedly remains the fine-dining restaurant étoilé, Aroma, where Chef Giuseppe Di Iorio elevates Italian classics with elegance and creativity. The restaurant's terrace, suspended above the ruins of ancient Rome, is one of the city's most magical spots for a sunset dinner.
