It may happen at least once in your life that you have to travel alone. This has never happened yet and you are anxious… That's normal, it's the unknown, but there's nothing to worry about! Tell yourself one thing, wherever you go, you will meet people.

To reassure you, here are our five tips for meeting people when you travel alone.

Be curious

This is, moreover, the primary quality of a traveler! To be curious and open to the world around us in order to better open ourselves to others. You will be able to approach people more easily and gain confidence. Don't be afraid to ask locals for places they recommend discovering, and with a bit of luck they might even join you (I'm telling you this because I experienced it during my stay in Tunisia).

Bonus tip: this will also allow you to improve your language skills or learn a new one (or a few expressions from the country you're visiting).

2/ Homestay

Some people like their comfort and will opt for a hotel room during their stay. But when traveling alone, you'll prefer to stay with locals or in youth hostels to meet people. As for me, I've had some wonderful encounters while staying with locals (especially if you stay for several months!). I also learned a lot about the country and you keep wonderful contacts besides!

You can also opt for a youth hostel (which, as its name suggests, is no longer reserved for young people but for all age groups) which welcomes many travelers who, like you, are looking for conviviality, meetings, and sharing!

3/ Enjoy your stay

Meet people, taking advantage of and the time to see things. What's the point of visiting in a rush? You don't truly appreciate the beauty of the landscapes, the people, the cultures, etc.

Don't hesitate to get lost in the alleys of a city to get away from the tourist areas and discover the real life of the place you are in! I met incredible people who taught me a lot this way; great friendships were formed.

Participate in organized outings

If you have the opportunity, sign up for at least one organized outing if you are discovering the place you are traveling to or if you haven't met anyone. It's the best way to chat and share moments with the other members of your group. And to meet up for meals or drinks for the rest of your stay!

5/ Switching public transport

We've all experienced public transport... Yes, the famous public transport that we tend to often complain about because of its delays! Precisely, it's an opportunity to chat with the person sitting next to us.

By sharing this moment, you'll see that time will pass more quickly, and what's more, you'll have bonded with someone who could perhaps become a very good friend! And if you meet up with other travelers, perhaps you'll spend the rest of your stay together exploring and discovering!

Have a good trip!
