Romantic Weekend in France: 10 Hotels for a Getaway for Two
October 2, 2026 Audrey

A private hot tub nestled among the trees, a glass-walled suite by a pond, dinner with a view of the Eiffel Tower: a Romantic Weekend in France These getaways are often just two or three hours from Paris—whether by train or car—and sometimes a little farther, all the way to the Calanques of Cassis or the Baie des Anges. From Michelin-starred restaurants to spas and rooms with a view, here’s an overview of ten places to escape to as a couple.

Loire Valley Lodges | A luxury treehouse, complete with a private hot tub

It all starts at the parking lot: the hotel is «car-free,» and an electric cart takes guests who aren’t keen on walking all the way to the lodge. Sleeping in a treehouse takes on a whole new meaning: the 21 lodges are perched among the treetops, four meters above the forest floor, in 300 hectares of forest with no neighbors or hunters. Three out of four guests encounter deer, roe deer, or wild boars there.

Across from the bed, the floor-to-ceiling window frames the trees. For those looking for a romantic weekend getaway with a private hot tub, Loire Valley Lodges offers 21 hot tubs and nine saunas—including eight two-person saunas on the terraces of the Spa+ lodges. Which room should you book? La Femme Loire, «probably the most romantic» of the lodges, according to the company.

At dinner, the kitchen comes to you: the staff sets the table in the lodge and serves a daily special made with organic produce from the estate and the forest. A Michelin Key, in-room massages, and an entire forest as a backdrop make Loire Valley Lodges a one-of-a-kind 4-star luxury hotel. The forest, the lodge says, accounts for 80 % of the work. It serves as a rejuvenating spa, with two- and four-day stays in the works centered around forest bathing, yoga, and guided breathing exercises. The ninth sauna awaits near the pool.

Good to know? Planning a marriage proposal? The "Celebration" package includes romantic decorations, treats, and champagne in the lodge.

Baumanière | A gourmet weekend at the foot of Les Baux-de-Provence

Bauxite, olive trees, vineyards, and garrigue: this is the color palette of Baumanière’s guest rooms, and the first shade is by no means a coincidence, as this mineral takes its name from the village of Les Baux-de-Provence. At the foot of its rocky outcrop in the Alpilles, the 20-hectare estate features 53 rooms and suites spread across five houses. Founded in 1945, the property is embarking on a new chapter: having earned Clef Verte 2026 certification, it aims to become a regenerative hospitality destination by 2030.

At L’Oustau de Baumanière, Glenn Viel has regained the third star to mark the restaurant’s 75th anniversary, and the green star recognizes his work with the estate’s organic vegetable gardens. L’Oustau is thus among the Michelin-starred restaurants in France that have made seasonality their guiding principle. At La Cabro d’Or, Michel Hulin champions refined Provençal cuisine, drawing on ingredients from the olive groves of the Alpilles and the restaurant’s garden—an approach recognized by the Green Food label.

At the spa, you’ll move from the hammam to the sensory pool before a Sisley treatment. Enjoy an aperitif for two surrounded by nature, a gourmet dinner for two in the garden, or a stroll along the sensory trail: Baumanière has everything you could want for a romantic getaway in France. Three swimming pools round out the experience.

Good to know? A gourmet weekend at Baumanière is arranged over the phone: when staying at the hotel, reservations are typically made this way rather than online.

The best part? In the Val d’Enfer, the Carrières des Lumières project masterpieces onto the walls of the old quarries where Jean Cocteau filmed The Testament of Orpheus.

Les Sources de Cheverny | A suite on stilts, 2 hours from Paris

Côme, the hero of the The Perched Baron by Italo Calvino, one day climbs into the trees, never to come down again. The novel, as you may have guessed, inspired the name of the hotel’s signature suite: a wooden cabin with its feet in the pond. All it takes is the A10 to swap the ring road for a country hotel Two hours from Paris: Les Sources de Cheverny is located next to the Château de Cheverny, which inspired Hergé’s Moulinsart. The castle is open to visitors and features period furnishings.

In the suite, 1950s Stilnovo lamps and Pierre Frey fabrics adorn the 47 m² space reserved for two; outside, you can slip into the Nordic bath with a view of the vineyards. Elsewhere, you can choose between the fireplaces at Château du Breuil and the more arty houses in the hamlet, set against a backdrop of bluish-green.

At Le Favori, a one-Michelin-star restaurant, Chef Pierre Frindel draws inspiration from the surrounding wilderness, and the hotel has been awarded two Michelin Keys. A nature-inspired spa hotel near Paris, the estate has set up its Caudalie Spa overlooking the woods: the couples’ ritual combines a bath with an 80-minute massage. Outside, the heated pool is open from mid-April through October.

Good to know? Without a car, you can reach Blois-Chambord from Paris Austerlitz in about an hour and a half by train, followed by a 25-minute taxi ride to the hotel—which the team has arranged; charging stations are available on site. When you wake up, breakfast is delivered to your room in a basket.

Domaine de Rochebois | A charming 4-star hotel in the Périgord, near Sarlat

Louise and Hortense for the villas, Joséphine for the bar: at the Domaine de Rochebois, even the spaces have first names. In Vitrac, this former 19th-century manor house overlooks the Dordogne Valley from its infinity pool. With 40 rooms and suites, a 400 m² spa by Nuxe, and a bistronomic restaurant, this is one of the most beautiful boutique hotels in the Périgord. For a night for two, the Duplex Terrace Suite (80 m²) offers one of the most stunning views on the estate.

In the evening, Chef Paul Pettini serves up locally sourced cuisine that celebrates the Dordogne at M, on the terrace on nice days until sunset. At the spa, guests can relax in a 34°C pool with eight jet zones before enjoying a massage in a double treatment room.

Good to know? Every hotel guest is entitled to one free hour per day at the sensory pool, which must be reserved before arrival. The unheated pool is open from May through October.

What to See in Sarlat? The best time to explore the medieval town is on market day—Wednesday morning or Saturday—when walnuts, foie gras, and, in winter, truffles line the market stalls. For a weekend in Sarlat, the Domaine de Rochebois offers the advantage of its proximity: this 4-star hotel is located six kilometers from the old town, and the staff will help you book restaurants and recommend the best spots in the Périgord Noir. On the way back, stop at the Cingle de Montfort, a meander of the Dordogne River overlooked by the castle of the same name.

SAX Paris | A 5-star hotel near the Eiffel Tower, with a rooftop terrace to boot

Who designed the 118 rooms and suites at SAX Paris? It’s a mystery: the hotel keeps the designer’s name a secret and happily lets the rumors run wild. If you’re going to choose a hotel near the Eiffel Tower, you might as well make the most of it: this 5-star property from LXR Hotels & Resorts is neighbors with the Champ-de-Mars, Les Invalides, and the Rodin Museum, where The Kiss features white marble. Guests sleep surrounded by marble and fine materials; the Signature Suite spans 80 m², and the Deluxe rooms with terraces offer an outdoor space to raise a glass upon your return.

Downstairs, the bar and the secluded garden—complete with a pool—lead to a spa, which includes a sauna and steam room, reserved primarily for hotel guests. A hotel with a view of the Eiffel Tower? The SAX Paris offers the most stunning view from its top floor: that’s where Kinugawa Rive Gauche sets its tables, with the tower right across the way, for a romantic dinner for two with all of Paris as the backdrop. Room service is available day and night.

Good to know? Celebrating an anniversary or a honeymoon? The hotel offers special packages, and the SAX Boat takes couples on a private cruise along the Seine, with the captain serving as their butler.

The best part? The «Secrets of the Eiffel Tower» tour organized by the hotel, featuring skip-the-line access, a private guide, and access to areas closed to the public, for up to six people.

Les Roches Blanches | A 5-star hotel by the sea, overlooking Cap Canaille

Winston Churchill, and later Édith Piaf, stayed there: built in 1887 overlooking the sea, the residence became a hotel in the early 1920s. Its name? It comes from the limestone cliffs along the coast between Cassis and Marseille. Across from it, Cap Canaille boasts the highest sea cliff in France (394 meters—no less!).

Right on the waterfront, service comes right to your lounge chair, complete with scented oshibori and artisanal ice cream. Les Roches Blanches has truly earned its place among the best seaside hotels on the Provençal coast: a 20-meter infinity pool, a historic pool nestled beneath century-old pine trees, direct access to the sea, and two Michelin Keys. You can even arrive by boat for dinner, complete with a skipper and a tender.

As night falls, Chef Alessandro Guardiani serves up a gourmet dinner at Les Belles Canailles with the cliff as a backdrop, while Rocco celebrates Italian cuisine and the Loup Bar, overlooking the sea, serves Nikkei cuisine. And the next morning, treat yourself to a treatment at the Sisley Spa.

Good to know? Paddles, kayaks, and snorkel masks are available right outside the hotel so you can explore the coast all the way to the Calanques.

The best part? The Route des Crêtes, a 15-kilometer coastal road leading to La Ciotat, is reserved for pedestrians and non-motorized traffic on Sundays. It’s the perfect spot to head to as the sun sets, before enjoying a glass of Cassis white wine, which has held AOC status since 1936.

Domaine de la Bretesche | The romantic golf hotel at the gateway to Brittany

Three hours from Paris, in the forest of Brière Park, a 15th-century castle designated a historic monument stands guard over a 5-star Relais & Châteaux hotel housed in its former outbuildings. There are very few golf hotels, on the outskirts of Brittany as elsewhere, to play an 18-hole course designed by Henry Cotton in 1967 at the foot of such a castle. The 6,015-meter course also hosts the Philippe Chatrier Trophy among its tournaments.

When it comes to accommodations, the rooms, suites, and villas blend fine materials with antique furniture that has been restored. La Bretesche happily recommends them for a romantic getaway, and we certainly won’t argue with that. At both Le Montaigu and Le Club, Chef Filipe Silvestre cooks according to the seasons and the produce from the permaculture garden.

Head to the spa for a series of treatments, a heated pool, and a glass-roofed lounge. It’s everything you need for a perfect weekend in the countryside without having to get back in the car—especially since tennis, pétanque, and complimentary bikes are available on-site. Outside, a second pool—also heated—opens during the season.

Good to know? The «Échappée délicieuse» package includes one night’s stay, the “Menu Château” dinner at the Club, and bike rentals; the golf version adds an 18-hole green fee per person.

The best part? The nearby Brière Regional Nature Park, which you can explore by barge—the flat-bottomed boat used in the marshes—before stopping in Kerhinet, a pedestrian-only village with 18 thatched-roof cottages restored by the Park.

Palais de la Méditerranée | A 5-star Art Deco hotel overlooking the Baie des Anges

On the Promenade des Anglais, the Palais de la Méditerranée stands with its Art Deco façade facing the Baie des Anges, embodying the glamour of the Riviera—now operating under the banner of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Its 145 rooms and 28 suites offer views of the sea or the hills. For a couple, we recommend the Panoramic Sea View Suite with its terrace lounge, or a King Sea View Room featuring its own terrace.

At Zouzou Riviera, you can enjoy solar-cooked cuisine on a panoramic terrace accompanied by music, while the Zouzou Bar serves up a variety of signature cocktails and fine champagnes. And if the weekend ends with a proposal, the hotel can also organize a wedding in Nice, accommodating up to 350 guests in the Salon Azur overlooking the sea and 936 in the 820 m² Salon Riviera. The indoor-outdoor pool overlooks the bay and is heated year-round—a rarity in Nice, according to the hotel—with a sauna and steam room just steps away.

Good to know? Pets weighing less than 12 kg are allowed, and a valet will take care of your car upon arrival.

The best part? La Colline du Château, less than a kilometer and a half away, offers panoramic views of the Baie des Anges, the old town, and the harbor, near a waterfall dating from 1885. Nice has also been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021, recognized as a winter resort town on the Riviera.

Le Castel Marie-Louise | A Belle Époque manor house overlooking La Baule Bay

Jacques Garcia has furnished this Belle Époque mansion with classic furniture and floral prints, set in a Baulois pine grove overlooking the Atlantic. A member of Relais & Châteaux and the Barrière Hotels, the 5-star Castel Marie-Louise offers the intimate atmosphere of a vacation home. For two guests, the Deluxe Ocean View Room features 22 m² of space plus an 18 m² terrace facing the ocean, while the Deluxe Ocean View Terrace Suite offers two terraces totaling 40 m²—one facing the park and the other facing the ocean—along with a bathroom featuring pink marble.

La Table du Castel © Barrière Hotels

La Table du Castel, on the other hand, follows the seasons: Chef Jérémy Coirier showcases local ingredients in dishes served in the garden when the weather permits, or else near the large windows of the dining room. Before that, enjoy a cocktail at the bar on its garden-side terrace.

What makes the difference? The Barrière resort all around—from the Augustinus Bader spa at L’Hermitage to the ORA Longevity Center at the Royal, not to mention the bikes available for rent to ride along the 9-kilometer stretch of the bay, ranked among the most beautiful in the world.

Good to know? La Baule-Escoublac Station is a 15-minute walk away, and Paris is a 3-hour train ride away. The "Escapade Gourmet" package includes breakfast, a three-course dinner, and a glass of champagne.

The best part? Guérande, just a few kilometers away, is known for its 14th-century ramparts and salt marshes, where you can learn about the work of the salt workers before heading back to the beach.

Le Mas des Prêcheurs | A glass-enclosed suite overlooking the pond, between the Alpilles and Avignon

Open the curtains with a simple command, without leaving the bed, and take in the view of the pond: this is the first delight of the two Immersion Suites at Mas des Prêcheurs. Entirely glass-enclosed, these 26 m² suites offer a 180° panoramic view of nature, featuring a 180 × 200 bed with linen sheets and a terrace with lounge chairs, facing either the pond or the meadow. Designed for couples without children, each suite comes with two bicycles, which are handy for getting to the farmhouse, just a five-minute walk away.

Outdoor Pool © Mas des Prêcheurs

At the foot of the Montagnette, this 1649 building is surrounded by 18 hectares of pine forest, olive groves, a Provençal garden, and a vegetable farm, complete with a swimming pool. Émilie and Guillaume, who fell in love with the place in 2020, launched the Ferme des Prêcheurs in 2025, which supplies produce to this bed and breakfast. In the evening, the day's prepared dishes are waiting for us to help ourselves, and we sit down to eat whenever we like.

Good to know? Avignon TGV is less than 20 minutes away: the farmhouse is less than 3 hours from Gare de Lyon, door-to-door. Arles and the Alpilles are about 20 minutes away.

The best part? La Montagnette, a protected mountain range, can be explored on foot from the garden along the path that runs through the orchards to the small white chapel of Saint-Victor.
