Not far from there, the Wolong National Nature Reserve\u2014recognized worldwide as the birthplace of giant pandas\u2014is a major natural botanical garden. Added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006, this reserve is home to the <strong>Wolong Giant Panda Research Center<\/strong>\u00a0which ensures reproduction as well as <strong>protection<\/strong> of these friendly mammals.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2933 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travellers-society.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/6d54eca5b8c4fa1aa912ce82343894d1-360x192.jpg\" alt=\"6d54eca5b8c4fa1aa912ce82343894d1\" width=\"564\" height=\"301\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The giant panda is one of the rarest species on the planet. Shy, elusive, and gentle, they once lived in large numbers throughout the region between Beijing and the Himalayas. After centuries of human expansion and habitat destruction, they are now threatened with extinction (for more information, suggested reading: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.fr\/gp\/product\/1409286010\/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;camp=1642&amp;creative=19458&amp;creativeASIN=1409286010&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;tag=veggbull-21\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Endangered Animals<\/a>, by L. What is the goal of a center like the one in Wolong? To ensure the<strong> survival<\/strong> of the species!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-image-2943 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.travellers-society.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/rtr2t5n8-1-360x247.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"446\" height=\"306\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Going to extraordinary lengths to achieve their goals, China's research centers are, for example, proposing <strong>volunteer programs <\/strong>that offer their participants a<strong> unique experience<\/strong> close contact with giant pandas, in addition to participating in their<strong> backup. <\/strong>For just over 250 U.S. dollars, volunteers can get involved by working alongside keepers and researchers to clean the cages, prepare meals, set up the enclosures, and more.
